1 US$ in millions

Operating Income (Loss)
The operating income initially showed an upward trend from 2005 to 2007, peaking at 7,347 million US dollars in 2007. This was followed by a sharp decline in 2008, reducing to 6,162 million, and a significant drop to 377 million in 2009. There was a slight recovery in 2010 reaching 1,769 million, but the company faced a major setback in 2011 with a loss of 1,870 million. A rebound occurred in 2012 and 2013, with operating income rising to 3,727 million and 3,333 million respectively, and further increasing to 5,403 million in 2014. However, losses were incurred again in 2015 and 2016, with operating losses of 8,809 million and 2,599 million respectively, indicating increased volatility and financial challenges towards the end of the period.
Sales Revenues
Sales revenues demonstrated a generally positive growth trend from 7,100 million in 2005, reaching a peak of 16,375 million in 2014. There was a steady increase through the years with slight fluctuations, including a notable dip in 2009 to 8,210 million, likely reflecting broader economic conditions. Revenues recovered after 2009, surpassing previous highs by 2011. In 2015 and 2016, however, revenues decreased substantially to 9,486 million and 8,447 million respectively, aligning with the periods of operating losses and reflecting potential adverse market conditions or operational difficulties.
Operating Profit Margin
The operating profit margin exhibited significant variability over the analyzed years. It started high at 56.55% in 2005, then declined to 48.39% in 2006, followed by a peak of 66% in 2007. A steep decline occurred in 2008 to 42.09%, with a dramatic drop to 4.59% in 2009, indicating eroded profitability despite the sales volume. Margins showed partial recovery in the subsequent years, reaching 33% in 2014. However, the margin turned sharply negative in 2015 and 2016, at -92.86% and -30.77%, respectively. These fluctuations indicate instability in operational efficiency and profitability, particularly in the latter years where losses widened substantially relative to revenues.
