1 US$ in thousands

Total Debt
The total debt position experienced significant fluctuations over the observed period. From 2005 to 2007, total debt remained relatively stable around the range of 220,000 to 236,000 thousand US dollars. However, in 2008, there was a sharp increase almost doubling to approximately 497,000 thousand US dollars, which then remained nearly flat in 2009. After 2009, total debt showed a rising trend peaking in 2014 at around 993,700 thousand US dollars. Post-2014, debt increased sharply again reaching the highest recorded amount of approximately 1,793,200 thousand US dollars in 2018. This peak was followed by a decline, with debt decreasing until 2022, where it settled at about 1,442,600 thousand US dollars.
Total Shareholders’ Equity
Shareholders’ equity showed an overall increasing trend throughout the period. Starting at just below 1,000,000 thousand US dollars in 2005, equity had a moderate growth through to 2007. There was a slight dip in 2008 but followed by a consistent upward progression from 2009 onwards. Notably, equity crossed the 2,000,000 thousand US dollars mark by 2019 and continued to grow steadily to reach approximately 2,360,900 thousand US dollars in 2022. The steady increase in equity indicates a strengthening financial base over time.
Debt to Equity Ratio
The debt to equity ratio fluctuated considerably, reflecting changes in the company’s leverage. The ratio remained low and stable around 0.22 to 0.23 between 2005 and 2007, then surged sharply to 0.49 in 2008—a likely consequence of the sharp rise in total debt during that year. Following this spike, the ratio decreased gradually until 2013, reaching a low of 0.31. However, starting in 2014, the ratio increased sharply again, peaking at 1.01 in 2018, indicating a doubling of debt relative to equity. From 2019 onwards, the ratio steadily declined to 0.61 by 2022, suggesting a reduction in leverage with the company strengthening its equity base relative to debt.
Overall Analysis
Over the observed period, total debt and shareholders’ equity both showed upward trends with notable inflection points leading to increased leverage. Debt spikes in 2008 and especially in the mid-2010s contributed to higher debt to equity ratios, indicating periods of increased financial risk. However, the subsequent reduction in the debt to equity ratio after 2018 signals a strategic effort to balance capital structure more conservatively by reducing leverage and improving equity. The continuous growth of shareholders’ equity throughout this period demonstrates financial strengthening and resilience despite fluctuations in debt levels.
