Required Rate of Return

The required rate of return is the minimum rate of return that an investor would anticipate receiving in order to invest in an asset. Two major approaches to determining the cost of equity are an equilibrium method (Capital Asset Pricing Model or Arbitrage Pricing Theory) and the bond yield plus risk premium method.
